About the Department

 

Emergence of Accountancy was initially as a profession and goes back to 6000 years ago and at the same time with the establishment of the first human civilizations in the world. The emergence of this profession in Iran goes back to 2600 years ago. During the last 80 years, with the development of this science, establishment of fields of study in universities, conducting experimental researches and formulation of theories and accounting standards, Accountancy has taken a big step towards scientification in the branch of Social Sciences. In the last decade, accountancy has had a unique role in the accountability of governments to the public and also in optimal allocation of capital by the owners of capital of the companies, through providing reliable, correct and timely financial reports.

The Department of Accountancy of Bu-Ali Sina University started its activities in the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences by admitting 40 students at B.A level in the 2006-2007 academic year with one assistant professor and an accounting trainer. In February 2012, M.A level was established in the field of Accountancy and as of September 2016, 5 groups of students have been admitted in this field and 26 students have graduated. Currently some of the alumni of the Department of Accountancy are continuing their studies at PhD. level and some others are working in important positions in the government sector or private companies. In February 2012, PhD. students were admitted to the department and currently 4 PhD. students are studying in the field of Accountancy.

At present, this department has 180 B.A students, 18 M.A students and 4 PhD. students. Faculty members of the department include 2 assistant professors of Accountancy, 1 Accounting trainer, and 1 assistant professor of Management; also one of the faculty members (assistant professor of Accountancy) has retired. The future plans of the department include recruiting new faculty members (at least assistant professor of Accountancy) in 2016 and 2017, offering new subfields in Accountancy at M.A level, reinstating PhD. courses in Accountancy (2017 onward), establishing a scientific-research periodical on Accountancy, and holding national seminar of Accountancy in the upcoming years.
